A leading concert violinist for over 30 years, Midori regularly transfixes audiences around the world, bringing together graceful precision and intimate expression that allows the listening public to not just hear music but to be personally moved by it. She has performed with the world’s top orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, and Atlanta Symphony.

Midori was born in Osaka, Japan in 1971 and began her violin studies with her mother, Setsu Goto, after displaying a strong aptitude for music at an early age. In 1982, conductor Zubin Mehta invited the then 11-year-old Midori to perform with the New York Philharmonic in the orchestra’s annual New Year’s Eve concert. Her young fame continued at age 14 with her BSO performance with Leonard Bernstein conducting his Serenade in which she broke a violin string (twice) and turned to borrow the instrument (twice) of BSO principal violinist. Midori will be returning to Tanglewood August 25th in the Bernstein Centennial Celebration.

Joining Midori is Turkish-American pianist Őzgür Aydin, who made his concerto debut in 1997 in a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a dedicated chamber musician, he enjoys recurrent collaborations with violinists Midori and Kolja Blacher, cellist Clemens Hagen, violist Naoko Shimizu and members of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Their program for the evening is:
Mozart Violin Sonata No. 36 in F Major, K. 547
Franck: Violin Sonata in A major, M.8
Schubert: Violin Sonata in G minor, D.408
Respighi: Violin Sonata in B minor, P.110
