Mahaiwe Announces Concerts by Pink Martini, Michael Feinstein, and Sutton Foster, plus education collaborations with Jacob’s Pillow and Shakespeare & Company

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced three additions to the 2017 summer schedule today, including concerts by Pink Martini (July 11), Michael Feinstein (August 6), and Sutton Foster (August 14). The theatre will also collaborate with Shakespeare & Company, Jacob’s Pillow Dance, and OLLI on pre-broadcast lectures before two upcoming screenings of HD productions by London’s National Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet.

Great Barrington, Mass.— The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will present performances by Wynonna Judd and The Big Noise, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Steep Canyon Rangers with special guest Noam Pikelny, and Golden Dragon Acrobats next year. “From Wynton to Wynonna, and bluegrass to Chinese acrobats, the Mahaiwe is delighted to celebrate iconic talents of great American music and the diversity of world cultures,” said Mahaiwe Executive Director Beryl Jolly. In addition, the theatre will continue to broadcast HD productions by the Met Opera, Bolshoi Ballet, and London’s National Theatre.

Mahaiwe Announces Bolshoi Ballet and London's National Theatre in HD Broadcasts

Great Barrington, Mass. — Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced the addition of 15 HD broadcasts to the theater’s schedule, including seven productions by the Bolshoi Ballet and eight by London’s National Theatre. “Our international HD broadcasts are becoming increasingly popular as the community enjoys some of the world’s best talents of theater and dance on our big screen here in Great Barrington,” said Jolly. “This season features Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Benedict Cumberbatch in dramas from London, plus timeless classics and brand new works from Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet.” Tickets are $17 per broadcast.

Mahaiwe Presents Paul Taylor Dance Company

Repertory includes three New England premieres

Great Barrington, Mass.— The world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company will return to the Mahaiwe for its ninth consecutive summer with performances on Friday, July 22 at 8:00pm and Saturday, July 23 at 3:00pm and 7:30pm. The engagement will include the New England premieres of Paul Taylor’s 143rd dance, Sullivaniana, and his 144th work, Dilly Dilly, as well as the New England premiere of The Weight of Smoke by guest choreographer Doug Elkins. There will also be a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary film about Paul Taylor, Dancemaker, on Sunday, July 17 at 3:00pm.

Bolshoi Ballet HD Broadcasts

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will present an array of events during January and February, including a concert by bluegrass legends Del and Dawg and screenings of two ski movies, as well as classic films to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Valentine’s Day, and HD broadcasts by London’s National Theatre, Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company, and the Met Opera. Mahaiwe Completes $2.2 million IMPACT Campaign
Receives $500,000 Challenge Match

Great Barrington, Mass.— The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Board of Directors announces that the non-profit organization has completed its three-year  $2.2 million IMPACT Campaign by September 1, 2015, and will receive a $500,000 bonus that was offered anonymously if the fundraising goal was met. Over 240 donors made contributions ranging from $20 to $150,000, with 58% of the donations being $500 or less. Contributions came in the form of one-time gifts and multi-year pledges.

Mahaiwe Presents Pink Martini

Great Barrington, Mass.— Pink Martini will swing into the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center on Monday, July 13 at 8:00pm. The Portland, Oregon-based “little orchestra” offers a multilingual musical travelogue from samba in Rio to cabaret music in Paris.  “As part of the Mahaiwe’s tenth anniversary season, we are presenting some of our audience members’ favorite artists and we’re thrilled to welcome back this delightful ensemble, led by Thomas Lauderdale and vocalist China Forbes. Mahaiwe Presents Paul Taylor Dance Company

Great Barrington, Mass.— The world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company will return to the Mahaiwe for its eighth consecutive summer with performances on Thursday, July 9 at 8:00pm, Friday, July 10 at 8:00pm, Saturday, July 11 at 3:00pm and 8:00pm, and on Sunday, July 12 at 2:00pm. A new component of the company’s Mahaiwe residency this year will be a special family matinee on July 11, with discounted tickets that cost $20 per family and that is specifically designed for young audiences with shorter excerpts of dances and a talkback session after the performance. Veterans will also be honored this summer with a free ticket opportunity.

Mahaiwe Launches Homestretch Effort for $2.2 million IMPACT Campaign
$500,000 Challenge Match on the Table

Great Barrington, Mass.— Three years ago, the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Board of Directors established the IMPACT Campaign and set a fundraising goal of $2.2 million to take the Mahaiwe to the next level of programming excellence and financial stability. Since then, the organization has quietly raised $1,950,000 toward that goal. Now in its tenth anniversary season, the Mahaiwe is launching the public phase of the campaign in order to raise the remaining $250,000 by September 1.  A generous anonymous donor has offered to match two-to-one each homestretch dollar raised once the entire goal is met, thereby delivering a bonus amount over and above the original goal.

This event will begin with a half-hour panel discussion with Sam Posey, Ellen Griesedieck, and John Clagett, followed by the feature-length documentary that chronicles the 35-year racing career of actor Paul Newman. Mahaiwe Announces Education Program for 2014-15 School Year

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced the theater’s 2014-15 education program today. The offerings include school-time field trip performances by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia and Omaha Theater Company, which will bring favorite storybooks to life; spectacular Chinese acrobatics by Cirque Ziva; a concert by the classical music-hip hop fusion duo Black Violin; and an in-school hip hop residency by Baba Israel. Additional performances by Black Violin and Cirque Ziva are also available for the general public. The Mahaiwe provides study guides before each performance and Mahaiwe Education Coordinator Laura Fleury is available to outline the curriculum connections for individual teachers.

Mahaiwe Announces Additions to Summer Schedule

Michael Feinstein, Selected Shorts with Kate Burton, Jane Curtin, and Parker Posey, plus three new London’s National Theatre HD Broadcasts

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced additions to the 2014 summer season today. Highlights include a concert by Michael Feinstein and a Selected Shorts performance with Kate Burton, Jane Curtin, and Parker Posey, plus three new London’s National Theatre HD Broadcasts. In addition, she announced a schedule change: blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Jonny Lang, whose concert was previously announced for June 8, has been rescheduled for August 21. Tickets to the new shows go on sale to Mahaiwe members on Wednesday, May 7 at 12:00pm and to the public on Saturday, May 10 at 12:00pm.

“Magical Mahaiwe Moments” Benefit Online Auction
May 5 – May 22

Great Barrington, Mass.— The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center announces its first-ever online benefit auction titled “Magical Mahaiwe Moments.” The two-dozen offerings range from exclusive experiences with celebrities Chris Noth, Karen Allen, Jayne Atkinson, Bernadette Peters, Jim Bouton, Jane Iredale, and Simon Winchester to getaway packages to Mexico, San Francisco, and New York to one-of-a-kind artistic treasures. Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will present Grammy Award-winning blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Jonny Lang on Sunday, June 8 at 7:00pm. “I'm very excited to welcome this blues phenomenon to the Mahaiwe stage for the first time. Mahaiwe Announces 2014 Season Highlights

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced highlights of the 2014 season today. “I'm excited to share our diverse 2014 season, which ranges from global celebrations such as the Soweto Gospel Choir’s Valentine's Day concert dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela, to contemporary musicians including Ani DiFranco and the string quartet ETHEL, to 60th anniversary performances by the legendary Paul Taylor Dance Company and the Four Tops, to the wry wit of Fran Leibowitz and David Sedaris,” said Jolly. “We’re having a lot of fun expanding our youth programming with imaginative puppetry based on Leo Lionni’s storybooks, Native American/Appalachian musical performer Martha Redbone, and our first April vacation week camp with Circus Theatricks. We’re also looking forward to hosting shows by a variety of community organizations and to partnering with Ski Butternut and Catamount on a screening of Into the Mind, as well as sharing even more HD broadcasts from London's National Theatre and the Met Opera.” The Mahaiwe will announce additional programming in the coming months.

Early 2014 Programming Announced

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Executive Director Beryl Jolly announced the first three shows of 2014 today. The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will perform their stage adaptation of Leo Lionni’s beloved children’s books Swimmy, Frederick, and Inch By Inch on Sunday, January 26 at 2:00pm. The renowned Soweto Gospel Choir will appear on Friday, February 14, at 8:00pm. The Canadian indie-rock group, Cowboy Junkies, will perform on Saturday, March 8 at 8:00pm. Tickets go on sale to Mahaiwe Members on Saturday, November 16 and to the public on Wednesday, November 20.

Mahaiwe Celebrates the Holidays

Great Barrington, Mass.— Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will host a festive array of events this holiday season, including Darlene Love’s “Love for the Holidays” concert on Friday, November 29 at 8:00pm and jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli and Broadway singer and actress Jessica Molaskey with guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli in a cabaret concert celebrating the Great American Songbook and other classics on Saturday, December 28 at 8:00pm. In honor of Love’s live appearance, the Mahaiwe will screen the hit documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, in which she plays a starring role, on Saturday, November 23 at 7:00pm. Acclaimed singer-songwriters Mary Chapin Carpenter and Marc Cohn will share the stage for a double-bill concert on Thursday, July 25 at 8:00pm. Husband-and-wife duo John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey with special guest Bucky Pizzarelli will perform on Saturday, December 28 at 8:00pm. “I’m delighted to add these special combination performances into the Mahaiwe mix as we celebrate the height of summer and the winter holidays,” said Jolly.

Mahaiwe Announces New Board Leadership

Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Board of Directors announced today that they have elected a new slate of officers for 2013. Maggie Buchwald was elected chair; she succeeds Lola Jaffe who founded the non-profit organization ten years ago and who championed the campaign to restore the 100-year-old Mahaiwe Theater and create a year-round performing arts center. Ms. Jaffe will continue to serve on the board as founding chair. Also elected to the board’s executive committee were Alan S. Jaffe and Jane Iredale as vice chairs, Herb Abelow as treasurer, and Stacey Allegrone-Lewis as clerk.
