"THE FABULOUS FIFTIES"
Boston Musical Theater

MUSICAL COMEDY BECOMES MUSICAL THEATER

In the 1950s the musical play was the thing! The '50s was the fourth decade of the musical's Golden Age when the story musical with songs that advanced the plot overtook the comedy revue. THE FABULOUS FIFTIES, directed by Charlotte Kaufman, features songs from many of the great '50s STORY MUSICALS: Guys and Dolls, The Most Happy Fella, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Bells Are Ringing, Gypsy and some others, lesser-known but truly worth remembering. The great composers were Bernstein, Lerner & Loewe, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Loesser, Styne and Berlin. Some of the big stars were Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, Alfred Drake, Gwen Verdon, Yul Brynner. Don't miss this stunning show by the same group who thrilled you with Fly Me To The Moon, and Thou Swell, Thou Witty here at the Mahaiwe. HEAR GREAT MUSIC PERFORMED BY GREAT VOICES: Mara Bonde, soprano, David Ripley, bass-baritone, with guest, Jennifer Sheehan, soprano, and introducing Mark DiCampo, tenor. ENJOY the BMT JAZZ TRIO; Dan Loschen, piano, Rich Appleman, bass, Bertram Lehmann, drums, and their guest, Allen Bonde, piano.
